It's not Fascism When We Do It
Sam Harris's Freudian slip gives amazing insight into the way many on the left think
A viral clip of Sam Harris saying that Hunter Biden could have had corpses in his basement and he would not have cared in comparison to the transgressions of Trump was eye opening, and inspired me to write this article. Watch the clip in the tweet below.
Rather interesting opinion coming from someone who has long said we need to abandon silly emotions and religious allegiances for reason and logic. As I have discussed in many videos, Sam Harris was a huge influence on the way I thought several years ago, but I saw that he was equally influenced by derangements and superstitions that he had preached against. I have also noticed that he is only willing to vilify Christianity and Islam, and never touches the most institutionalized religion in the American government: Zionism, which covers both Christianity and Judaism. And Sam Harris is not the only one, this seems to be a trend within the “New Atheist” movement, which I used to be a fan of not long ago.
But enough about that, onto the subject at hand. I have never claimed that I thought the election was stolen. To me, it’s not a religious building block of my philosophy to deny or support this claim. This has actually been to my detriment, as I could easily grift off of claiming that it was stolen. Here’s a livestream I did from November in 2020 talking about this issue.
We hear three claims that are often conflated: there was fraud, the election was rigged, the election was stolen.
Suggesting that there was fraud should not be a controversial thing to say. Of course there was fraud. There is fraud in every election, and with all the accommodations made to voters in order to be able to drop a ballot in a box or to vote by mail, fraud was more easily widespread than previous elections. This should go without saying.
Suggesting that the election was rigged is also easy to make, at least depending on how you would quantify rigging. Whistle blowers have revealed that the FBI not only ignored the stories covering Hunter Biden’s laptop, but classified them as disinformation in order to not pull votes away from Biden. The media gave a mostly one-sided barrage of propaganda convincing the population that Trump was an orange Hitler, and the Russiagate conspiracy pushed by the Democrats and intelligence agencies delegitimized the true election results of 2016, unfairly hurting Trump for his entire term. This can also be seen in the Democrat primary of 2020 where the vote was undoubtedly rigged against Bernie Sanders, as almost all the candidates dropped out and endorsed Biden before Super Tuesday to seal Sander’s fate.
Claiming the election was stolen is the bold claim, as you are suggesting that Donald Trump won the election and it was taken from him and given to Joe Biden. This is also the most religiously fervent belief on both sides, that the results were either absolutely fraud or absolutely rock solid. While I think making the claim that the election was rigged by letting certain states change their voting laws to help Biden are certainly verifiable, I have yet to be convinced of the stolen charge.
I have little sympathy for those grifting off the claims of “stolen elections” as they have done remarkably little to attempt to fix the system and never had any problems with it before 2020. Tulsi Gabbard, whom I supported in 2020, had actually been ringing the bell on election integrity far before it ever became a Trump issue.
Sam Harris’s statement strengthens the “rigged” charge that I laid out a couple paragraphs above. In an other part of the interview, Sam supported banning Donald Trump off of Twitter, and suggested that we do everything possible outside of manufacturing votes or literally upending the machinery of democracy to keep Trump from ever becoming president again. This is a straight up admission of rigging. And not only is this rigging, this is government suppression of information and coercion of private companies, a practice known as FASCISM.
Sam seemed to think that Hillary, Kamala, Joe Biden, and every other candidate are not as dangerous as Trump because they are “normal politicians.” I thought this to be eye opening as well. The reason establishment liberal types like Sam Harris are scared to have Trump in office just in case he does something outside of the norm.
The irony of this fear is that Trump voted in line with the establishment almost 100 percent of the time. White knight Liz Cheney who opposes Trump voted in line with him 93 percent of the time. They fear the occasional step out of line from the orange man so badly that he must be stopped at all costs.
The idea that we have free and fair elections should be ridiculed to death. We absolutely do not. And the voting mechanism is far from the biggest weight tipping the scale, it is the media. We need to build our own.
Another excellent post Reed. Sorry to see you got banned on Twitter again...
Yeah I never liked Sam or Dawkins (aside from his actual Biology work, which is fantastic). To me proving or disproving the existence of god is a waste of time, and Harris’s critiques of religion boiled down to a lot of strawmanning. “Hey, this group of adherents to your religion is crazy. Therefore, your entire religion is crazy and should go away.”
