Betsy DeVos turned heads yesterday by claiming that we should abolish the Department of Education. She’s right.
The Department of Education has done nothing but give us a caste system of testing that creates special needs students, has brought us from first in the world in education to 27th in the world, and drained billions of dollars into unnecessary administrative positions instead of actually helping teachers.

While it’s easy to talk theory without empirical influence, my dad happens to be a public school English teacher of over 35 years. He emulates John Keaton’s character in Dead Poets Society and tries to teach kids how to think instead of following rubrics, and has many a time similarly met the ire of the school staff for his unorthodox approaches.
